Winter Mornings: Oatmeal

There is something about luxurious about starting a cold winter morning with a warm bowl of oatmeal. It gives you such a comforting and cozy feeling, no matter what the temperature is outside.
There are a few varieties of oatmeal out there, but our favorite is the Irish steel cut oats. It has more texture than standard oats, which makes all the difference.
When making the oatmeal, I love to use a nice heavy pot on the stove instead of using the microwave. This makes me feel like we are in a rustic cabin in the middle of the woods, at least for a few more hours. Oatmeal is actually so incredibly easy to make, I'm not sure why you even need a microwave.
To add wonderful textures and flavors to the oatmeal we use Cranrasins, golden raisins, brown sugar and almond slices or what ever fruit and nuts we have on hand. And to really make the oatmeal become a luxury, we steam milk until it is light and frothy and pour it on top. The whole milk is almost as sweet as the brown sugar and warms you to the core.
So on that next cold morning, warm yourself with a luxurious bowl of oatmeal and enjoy the day.

Mmmm this looks so good on a cold winter morning. Definitely luxurious!

I love how you've used a muffin tray to hold all the delicious toppings. So clever! I also love your beautiful spoon collection too.

Using a microwave to make porridge is sacrilege in my book. The pleasure is all in the stirring (and in the adding of a big gloop of golden syrup).

Your images are beautiful.

Not only am I reveling in the thought of a bowl of thick, creamy oatmeal right now I am loving the styling and execution of this photo. I love the neutral tones with a spike of deep cranberry red and the shiny vintage spoons. Wonderful all around!
