Italian as Apple Pie

Will and I are as American as apple pie. Our families have been in the country since the 1600s. Most of the food we eat, is pretty Americanized too. Apple pie is actually one of my favorite things to bake and over the July Fourth holiday I made one for our family and friends.

I have to tell you though, we have an obsession with Italy. We visited most major cities of Italy when we were in high school together on a school trip. We had our honeymoon on the Amalfi coast and we are slightly stalking the idea of a cooking class in Tuscany. Except, we honestly can't get away. We are busier than we have ever been, in the best way possible. We will not be making a trip to Italy anytime soon, so we thought we'd bring Italy to us. At home, we don't practice living the 'Italian' way, and we want to challenge ourselves to change our habits.

For one month, we will immerse ourselves in Italian culture and food. We have made a pact to only shop at Eataly, which is right down the street from where we live. This is going to be interesting. Eataly doesn't sell mayo. Yupp, we will have to rethink some of our most basic staples. Will is going to have to depart from his beloved brown liquor and try some Grappa. I am pretty obsessed with mastering pasta making, so thats my new challenge.

For the next 30 days, follow us on twitter to see what our culinary adventures turn up. We will also make it a point to enjoy the food we cook with friends by sharing meals together. That is one of our favorite things about Italian culture - the communal food atmosphere.

Ciao for now!

If they sell oil and eggs, you can make aioli! Enjoy - can't wait to see what you cook up.

You make cooking (which I hate) look beautiful. Not to mention apple pie (which I LOVE.)
